About the Editor
Heavy Horse World is published and edited by Diana Zeuner MCIJ, a professional writer and journalist who has been closely involved with heavy horses for over 30 years. Her interest began with their introduction to the Weald & Downland Open Air Museum, Singleton, West Sussex, where her late husband, Chris Zeuner OBE MA, was the Museum Director. He introduced working horses to demonstrate their importance to rural communities and help interpret the museum’s historic building exhibits. After his sudden and untimely death in 2001 Diana took over the management of the heavy horse stables at the museum until a full-time horseman was appointed.
Heavy Horse World was founded in 1987 and quickly established itself as the ‘trade magazine’ for the heavy horse sector. In 1998 Diana produced and edited the Working Horse Manual, which incorporates some 24 contributions from heavy horse specialists and is regarded as the best beginner’s guide to the subject in the UK today. In 2004 she wrote Heavy Horses, published by Shire Publications, a concise all-round introduction to heavy horses which is now in its second edition. Both books can be bought online on this website.
Diana also edits the bi-monthly magazine for the Association of Independent Museums and the twice-yearly magazine for the Weald & Downland Open Air Museum. Her interests include walking, bird-watching, gardening, rural history and heritage, and of course, heavy horses!
